CBD and Coffee: A Match Made In Heaven?

CBD and Coffee - A Match Made In Heaven?

With CBD all the rage, people have been wondering how can they can incorporate it into their daily routines.

Coffee is one of the world’s most go-to items as part of their day as well. So, it only makes sense that the two go hand-in-hand, right?

Let’s take a look at if that’s the case and how CBD and coffee can play into your day.

People Love Coffee (and CBD!)

Americans consume a good deal of coffee. However, compared to the rest of the world, we fall a bit short from drinking the most, according to 2017 results from the International Coffee Organization (ICO). In fact, we’re 26th. Finland consumes the most at a staggering 12kg per person each year. The U.S. consumed 4.2kg per person while Canada totaled 6.5kg. Norway (9.9kg), Iceland (9kg), Denmark (8.7kg) and the Netherlands (8.4kg) rounded out the top five.

Meanwhile, CBD consumption has also taken off in recent years. 2018 findings from cannabis analysts the Brightfield Group estimated that the American CBD market will reach $20 billion by 2020. This significant sum comes from CBD oil but also an array of products from beauty and wellness to cooking and pet care.

The market also boomed for, well, Boomers. Interest in cannabinoids of all types jumped in 2018 for seniors consumers. Now, with the passing of the Farm Bill and the FDA approval of Epidiolex, some expect 2019 to be the year that seniors enter the sector even further.

With coffee serving as a long-valued consumption item, and CBD serving as a new and potentially valued item by many, it only makes sense that CBD coffee would become an interest to so many.

When and How to Combine CBD and Coffee

While the jury is still out, cannabis consumers often don’t wait until hard scientific research comes in. That’s because if they did, little to no progress or findings would come about. As such, many coffee and CBD fans began doing their own research.

Some prefer to add CBD after the coffee has already been brewed using a CBD Tincture. You can use an oil-based tincture which is typically more affordable, but may float a bit (any fans of bullet-proof coffee with MCT oil are familiar with this). If this is unappealing to you, consider water soluble drink, which blend into the beverage much better.

Luckily, to avoid the mess some brands have developed proprietary methods to infuse the CBD directly into coffee grounds, eliminating the need for adding it in after brewing. One brand we love who is doing this is Brooklyn-based Flower Power Coffee, and in particular its collaboration with CannabisWithKymB on nitro-sealed CBD Coffee Cans – many flower lovers are familiar with the trend of nitro-sealed flower cans to preserve freshness, so this represents the cross of cultures.
