Science Corner: CBN’s Reputation Runs Ahead of the Research
Every brand on the market sells CBN as a sleep cannabinoid. The literature is more complicated than the marketing suggests. A 2017 clinical review in Current Psychiatry Reports examined the research on cannabinoids and sleep and found that most CBN-specific claims trace back to early studies where CBN appeared as a degradation byproduct of THC, not the variable being tested cleanly (Babson et al., 2017, PubMed PMID 28349316). CBN does show mild sedating properties in animal research. This tincture is CBN isolate: pure CBN, no THC, no other cannabinoids. Built for evening use.
How To Use Your CBN Tincture
Sublingual technique. Shake the bottle, fill the dropper to your dose, place the oil under your tongue, hold it there for 60 to 90 seconds before swallowing. The blood vessels under your tongue absorb CBN directly into the bloodstream, which is why a tincture takes effect 30 to 60 minutes faster than a swallowed gummy. The longer you hold the oil under your tongue, the more of it reaches the bloodstream rather than passing through the gut.
Starting dose. New to CBN? Start with 5 to 10 mg, which is roughly a sixth to a third of a full dropper. Wait at least 45 minutes before deciding whether to take more, since sublingual onset is gradual (15 to 45 minutes for first effects). CBN effects are subtle. Most users describe a settling-in feeling rather than an obvious wave. If you don’t feel anything at 10 mg, that doesn’t mean it’s not working. It might mean you need a higher dose.
Dose escalation. If 5 to 10 mg felt like nothing after a few days of consistent use, step up to 25 to 30 mg (a full dropper). Most evening users land here. If you still want more, 50 to 75 mg is the next tier. Some people land at 50 mg for the same effect others get at 15 mg. Normal range. We don’t recommend exceeding 100 mg in a single dose. The whole point of a tincture versus a fixed-dose gummy is granular control. Use it.
When to use it. Most customers take the CBN tincture in the evening, 30 to 60 minutes before they want to wind down. The lemon mint flavor makes it palatable straight from the dropper, but you can also drop it into a warm (not hot) tea, a smoothie, a yogurt cup, or a recipe with fat. Some customers stack a half dropper of CBN with a quarter dropper of Delta 8 or CBD for a combined effect. The You-Pick bundle makes the stack easy to try. Track what works for you in the first two weeks, then dose with confidence.

At bedtime, 30-60 minutes before you’d like to go to sleep, start with 1/2 dropper. Hold under your tongue and in your cheek for 60 seconds for max absorption, then swallow. Allow ~20 mins for effects, and if you still feel like you’d like more, try another half dropper.
It’s like giving your tongue a tiny CBN bath! Alternatively, you can add the tincture to food or drinks. CBN smoothie, anyone?
Remember, start with a low dose and gradually increase until you find your sweet spot. It’s like finding the perfect temperature for your shower – it might take a few tries, but once you get it right, it’s blissful!
Here are guidelines to use for an average CBN tincture dosage:
- 1/2 of a Dropper (0.5 mL) = 20mg CBN + 10mg CBD – start here
- 1 Dropper (1.0 mL) = 40mg CBN + 20mg CBD
Many people also take some Delta 8 tincture at bedtime too.

Frequently Asked Questions
The CBN tincture is a 30 mL bottle containing 1800mg of CBN isolate in an organic MCT oil base with a lemon mint flavor. The calibrated dropper delivers 60 servings per bottle, 30mg of CBN per full dropper, so you can dose by the half-dropper or quarter-dropper depending on what works for you. CBN isolate means pure CBN: no THC, no other cannabinoids, no terpenes. Won’t get you high. Third-party lab tested every batch for cannabinoid potency, heavy metals, residual solvents, pesticides, and microbials. Federally compliant under the 2018 Farm Bill.
Shake the bottle. Fill the dropper to the dose you want. Place the oil under your tongue and hold it there for 60 to 90 seconds before swallowing. The blood vessels under your tongue feed CBN straight into the bloodstream. Anything you swallow has to pass through the gut and liver first, which adds time and reduces how much actually reaches you. Onset is 15 to 45 minutes depending on body weight, food in your stomach, and your individual chemistry. The longer the oil sits sublingually, the more of it absorbs directly. Don’t eat or drink for a few minutes after, so the oil has time to absorb.
Yes, but you’ll trade speed and efficiency for convenience. Swallowed tincture takes 45 to 90 minutes to take effect (similar to a gummy) and delivers less CBN per dose because the liver metabolizes part of it before it reaches the bloodstream. Sublingual is the preferred method for most users because it’s faster and more efficient. If you don’t love the under-tongue technique, mix the dropper into a small amount of food or a warm (not hot) drink. Mixing with fat helps absorption since CBN is fat-soluble. That’s part of why we use MCT oil as the carrier instead of water-based alternatives.
CBN doesn’t have a single ‘right’ dose. Effective amounts vary between people based on body weight, prior cannabinoid use, and how your endocannabinoid system responds. Most users start at 5 to 10 mg (a sixth to a third of a full dropper) and adjust from there. Evening users often land at 25 to 30 mg (one full dropper). Some users go higher, 50 to 75 mg, for stronger effects. Wait at least 45 minutes after a dose before deciding to take more, since sublingual onset is gradual. We don’t recommend exceeding 100 mg in a single dose. The whole point of a tincture versus a fixed-dose gummy is that you can fine-tune in 5 to 10 mg steps. Start small. Find your spot.
Yes. CBN isolate contains no THC, but it’s still a drug test risk. CBN is structurally similar to THC. Immunoassay drug tests (the common workplace screen) can cross-react with CBN, especially at higher doses. Some newer or more sensitive panels test for CBN metabolites directly. If you have a drug test coming up, abstain from any cannabinoid product, including CBN isolate. Workplace, sports, custody, or other drug screening can flag CBN depending on the test type and panel sensitivity. The detection window for CBN is typically 3 to 5 days for occasional users, longer for regular use. Hair tests can detect cannabinoids for 90 days or longer.
CBN metabolizes through the CYP450 liver enzyme system, which is the same pathway many prescription medications use, so it can raise or lower the active level of other drugs you take. If you take blood thinners (warfarin), anticonvulsants (clobazam, valproate), SSRIs, or any medication with a narrow therapeutic window, talk to your healthcare provider before adding CBN to your routine. The interaction is dose-dependent: small doses are less likely to affect other medications than larger ones, but a conversation with your provider is the right call either way. Don’t combine with alcohol or central nervous system depressants without your provider’s input. Pregnant or breastfeeding individuals should not use this product. Anyone with a cardiovascular condition or liver issue should consult their physician before use. Don’t drive or operate machinery until you know how CBN affects you. Start with a small dose to gauge your individual response.
Store the bottle upright at room temperature (60 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit), out of direct sunlight, in a cool dark place like a cabinet or drawer. Heat and light degrade cannabinoids and terpenes fast. Don’t leave the bottle in a hot car or on a sunny windowsill. Don’t refrigerate (the MCT oil thickens at cold temperatures and the dropper becomes hard to use). Shake the bottle before every dose to redistribute the cannabinoids in the oil base, since they can settle during storage. Properly stored, the tincture stays fresh for 12 to 18 months from the bottling date printed on the label.
All three tinctures use the same 30 mL bottle, MCT oil base, dropper, and dosing format. The difference is which cannabinoid you’re after. CBD is the daytime workhorse: full plant profile, no high, broad daily-wellness positioning. Most customers take it any time. CBN is the evening pick: pure CBN isolate, no THC, mild sedating properties in animal research. CBG is the ‘mother cannabinoid’ all others derive from; most users take it during the day for clarity. Delta 8 is the psychoactive option: a buzz with a smoother profile than Delta 9, dosed sublingually for fine-tune control. If you can’t decide between two or three, the You-Pick bundle lets you try them side by side at a discount.
