A 2012 analysis in Drug Testing and Analysis examined 28 major compounds across cannabis varieties and found that the popular Sativa-vs-Indica distinction doesn’t reliably predict chemical content (Hazekamp & Fischedick, 2012, PubMed PMID 22362625). What actually differentiates strains is the full chemovar profile: the specific ratios of cannabinoids, terpenes, and minor compounds working together.
