Most “pet” CBD is just the human tincture at a lower dose. We built this one for pets from the base up, around wild Alaskan salmon oil that dogs and cats actually love. Pet parents reach for it to ease separation anxiety, take the edge off storms and fireworks, smooth out travel and vet visits, and help senior pets settle as they get older. You dose it by weight with the dropper, so it’s easy to stay consistent.

The salmon oil base does double duty: it’s rich in omega-3s (EPA and DHA), the fatty acids known for skin and coat. Sourcing from Alaska’s cold, clean waters means naturally low impurities, which matters when it’s going to an animal that can’t read the label. It’s made with CBD isolate, so there’s no THC.

“She loves the salmon flavor and licks the eye dropper without any issue. Storms, fireworks, the nearby hunting sounds, not an issue any longer. She stays calm, without the anxiety.”Ralph K., Verified Purchase
“I have a 14 year old senior with arthritis, and after a few drops he is running around like a puppy again.”Amanda T., Verified Purchase
“We moved homes and our two boys were upset, lots of barking. I added this to their meals and it’s helped them settle in so much.”Diane M., Verified Purchase

What Customers Are Saying

“We moved from our rural home to an apartment in town and our two boys were upset that there were so many people around their home so lots of barking ensued. I tried adding this tincture to their meals and it has eased the transition so much. They have settled in and are finding it easier to live here. It’s also made us better neighbors.”

Diane M.

“Charlie loves it! I don’t have to trick Charlie into taking it, or hide it with other food. She loves the salmon flavor and licks the eye dropper without any issue. Storms, fireworks, the nearby hunting sounds, not an issue any longer. She stays calm and behavior is normal.”

Ralph K.

“Fireworks, thunder, and lightning used to cause my dogs such anxiety. Now I give them the tincture before these events and they stay so much calmer. Thank you TribeTokes.”

Elsie S.

“Outstanding CBD oil, you can see the difference in the color. My cat is so happy and loves it. Best brand for CBD salmon oil for pets I’ve found and I’ve tested 4 other brands. Excellent product and woman-owned company seals the deal for me.”

CBD oil built for dogs and cats, dosed by weight. The salmon flavor solves the cooperation problem: most pets accept it straight from the dropper, no chasing the cat under the bed. Same formula for both species. Third-party lab tested every batch. Less than 0.3% Delta 9 THC, federally compliant under the 2018 Farm Bill.

How To Give Your Pet the Oil

Two delivery methods, pick what works for your pet. Place the drops directly on your pet’s gums or under the tongue for fastest absorption (15 to 45 minute onset). Or mix the drops into a small amount of food or a treat. Sublingual is faster, but food-mixing is what most pet parents default to because pets cooperate more easily with a familiar meal. Many pets accept the salmon flavor straight from the dropper after a few days of consistent routine.

Dose by weight, twice daily. Start at 0.1 mg of CBD per pound of body weight for the first week. If your pet handles the routine well, step up to 0.25 mg per pound for typical use. Some owners go to 0.5 mg per pound for stronger behavioral support during specific events. Reference the weight-dose chart below for ranges by pet size class. Effective amounts vary by individual, so the chart is a starting point, not a prescription.

Timeline and signs to watch for. CBD typically takes 30 to 60 minutes to peak in the bloodstream after sublingual administration, slightly longer if mixed into food. Behavioral effects (your pet seems calmer, less jumpy at known triggers) can show within an hour for many pets. For long-term routines, give the oil consistently for 2 to 4 weeks before judging response. Track what you see. If anything unusual comes up (excessive sedation, vomiting, persistent diarrhea, or appetite changes), stop dosing and contact your veterinarian.

Pre-event dosing. Many owners give the oil 30 to 60 minutes before known stress triggers (thunderstorms, fireworks, travel, vet visits, grooming, separation). For sustained daily use, twice-daily dosing keeps blood levels steadier than once-daily. Adjust the timing to match your pet’s routine and what works for your household.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s in the pet CBD oil?

CBD isolate as the active ingredient, salmon oil as the carrier, graduated dropper for weight-based dosing. Less than 0.3% Delta 9 THC, federally compliant under the 2018 Farm Bill. Third-party lab tested every batch for cannabinoid potency, heavy metals, residual solvents, pesticides, and microbials. Salmon oil for two reasons: pets typically accept the flavor without resistance, and omega-3 fatty acids are already a familiar part of dog and cat diets. Same formula for both species. The dropper is graduated so you can measure the same dose each time.

Which pets is this for? Dogs, cats, or both?

Dogs and cats, same bottle. The formula works for both species because dogs and cats share the same cannabinoid receptor system as other mammals. The dose-per-pound varies by species (see Science Corner above), so cats often need a higher per-kilogram dose than dogs to reach the same blood levels. Not formulated for horses, birds, reptiles, or exotic pets. If you have a pet outside the dog and cat species, talk to your veterinarian first. Pregnant or lactating animals should not be given any cannabinoid product without veterinary guidance.

Dose math: how do I dose by my pet’s weight?

Dosing starts at 0.1 mg of CBD per pound of body weight, twice daily, for the first week. Typical use settles around 0.25 mg per pound; some pets go to 0.5 mg per pound during specific stress events (storms, fireworks, vet visits). Reference the weight-dose chart in the How To Use section above for ranges by weight class. Effective amounts vary by individual: senior pets, anxious pets, or pets new to CBD often respond to lower doses, while larger or more habituated pets sometimes need more. The dropper is calibrated so you can measure consistently each time.

Administration: how do I get my pet to take it?

Two delivery routes work, pick what your pet tolerates. The fastest is sublingual: drops on the gums or under the tongue, 15 to 45 minute onset. The easier route for most pets is mixing the drops into a small amount of food or a treat. If your pet resists the dropper, try mixing into a high-value food (a piece of cheese, a spoonful of plain yogurt, or a small amount of wet food) for the first week, then gradually transition to direct dosing as they get used to the taste. Many pets accept the salmon flavor straight from the dropper after a few days of consistent routine.

Is the oil safe for my pet?

Veterinary research on CBD safety in healthy dogs and cats has grown substantially since 2018. A 2019 single-dose pharmacokinetics and 12-week safety study at 2 mg/kg twice daily found no clinically significant adverse effects in either species (Deabold et al., 2019, PubMed PMID 31635105). At the doses recommended on this page (0.1 to 0.5 mg/lb twice daily), most pets tolerate CBD well. Mild side effects can include drowsiness, stomach upset, temporary changes in appetite, or short-term lethargy, especially when starting out or stepping up the dose. If you notice excessive sedation, vomiting, persistent diarrhea, or any behavior change that concerns you, stop dosing and contact your veterinarian. Pets with pre-existing liver conditions, pets on multiple medications, and pets undergoing surgery should not be given CBD without veterinary supervision.

Will my pet feel ‘high’ from the oil?

No. CBD itself isn’t psychoactive: it doesn’t bind to the same brain receptors that produce a high. The pet oil is hemp-derived and contains less than 0.3% Delta 9 THC, the federal compliance threshold, which sits well below levels that would cause psychoactive effects. That said, pets are smaller than humans and process cannabinoids differently. Cats in particular are more sensitive to Delta 9 THC than dogs. Start at the low end of the weight chart and watch your pet for any unusual behavior. If you notice wobbly walking, excessive sedation, disorientation, or unusual lethargy, stop dosing and contact your veterinarian. These signs are rare at recommended doses but can occur in some pets, especially the first time.

Don’t combine with: medications and safety considerations

CBD metabolizes through the CYP450 liver enzyme system in dogs and cats, the same pathway many veterinary medications use. If your pet takes seizure medication (phenobarbital, levetiracetam, zonisamide), anti-inflammatory medication (NSAIDs, prednisone), blood thinners, or any medication with a narrow therapeutic window, talk to your veterinarian before adding CBD. CBD can raise or lower the active level of other drugs your pet takes. Don’t combine with sedatives or anesthesia without veterinary guidance. Pregnant or lactating animals should not be given any cannabinoid product. Pets with liver disease should be evaluated by a veterinarian before starting CBD. Always tell your vet what supplements your pet is on, including this oil, before any procedure or new prescription.

Store the oil how?

Store the bottle upright at room temperature (60 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit), out of direct sunlight, in a cool dark place like a cabinet or pantry shelf. Heat and light degrade cannabinoids fast. Don’t leave the bottle in a hot car or on a sunny windowsill. Don’t refrigerate (the salmon oil thickens at cold temperatures and the dropper becomes hard to use). Shake the bottle before every dose to redistribute the cannabinoids in the oil base, since they can settle during storage. Keep the bottle out of reach of pets, especially curious dogs who might try to chew through the cap. Properly stored, the oil stays fresh for 12 to 18 months from the bottling date printed on the label.

Subscribe-and-save: how does it work on the pet oil?

Subscribe-and-save takes 20% off every shipment of the pet oil. Pick the cadence that matches how often you finish a bottle (every 4, 6, or 8 weeks depending on your pet’s size and dose). The subscription is flexible: pause indefinitely (no auto-resume), skip the next delivery, change cadence mid-subscription, or cancel from your account at any time. Subscribers earn loyalty rewards points on every shipment. If you have multiple pets or want a longer supply on hand, the 2-pack option saves more per bottle than the single, and can also be subscribed to.

Returns on the pet oil: what’s the policy?

Returns are accepted on unopened, sealed bottles within 30 days of delivery for a full refund. Once the seal is broken or the bottle is used, it can’t be returned (product handling rules for ingestibles). If you receive a bottle that arrived damaged in transit, leaking, or with a broken seal, email team@tribetokes.com with photos and your order number; we’ll send a replacement or refund at no cost to you. Return shipping is not covered unless there was an error on our end. If your pet doesn’t tolerate the taste or response after a fair trial (we’d suggest at least one week), customer service can sometimes offer a discount on a different format or product. Reach out and ask.
