Science Corner: What the Research Says About CBD and Nicotine
The human studies that tested CBD with no nicotine in the mix, including the parts that don’t make headlines. All of them are small.
Who and what: 24 smokers who wanted to quit used a CBD or placebo inhaler for one week, whenever they felt the urge to smoke.
What they found: The CBD group smoked about 40% fewer cigarettes and the placebo group didn’t change. Some of the drop held at follow-up. Craving scores didn’t differ between groups.
Read on PubMed →Who and what: 30 dependent smokers, tested after a night without cigarettes, took a single 800mg oral dose of CBD or a placebo.
What they found: CBD pulled attention away from cigarette images and lowered how pleasant people rated them. It had no effect on craving or withdrawal.
Read the full study →Who and what: 20 daily nicotine e-cigarette users went 4 hours without vaping, once with 320mg of oral CBD and once without.
What they found: Lower withdrawal severity and state anxiety with CBD, after adjusting for what people expected. The authors call it preliminary. The CBD was donated, and three authors list ties to a cannabis company.
Read on PubMed →Who and what: About 120 adults with tobacco use disorder who want to quit take 800mg of CBD a day or a placebo for 8 weeks.
What it measures: Nicotine intake, through blood cotinine and cigarettes smoked. Estimated completion: December 31, 2026.
See the trial →None of these studies tested the products in this kit. The oral doses studied (320mg to 800mg) are many times what’s in one of our gummies, and no study has shown that CBD helps people stay off nicotine long term. We’ll update this section when the UCLA results land.

How the Kit Works
CBD works with the endocannabinoid system, a network of receptors and enzymes involved in mood, stress response and sleep. It doesn’t bind CB1 receptors the way THC does, so none of these products produce a high. Each one adds a supporting cannabinoid: CBG in the pen, CBC in the stress gummy, CBN in the sleep gummy.
The pen and the gummies run on different clocks. Inhaled CBD usually shows up within a few minutes and fades over one to three hours. A gummy goes through digestion first, so it takes 30 to 90 minutes to arrive and can stretch four to six hours.
Body weight, tolerance, a full or empty stomach and draw length all shift the experience (sometimes a lot). New users often find half a gummy is plenty for the first few days. Change one thing at a time so you know what’s doing what.
Both gummy boxes use isolates with zero THC. The pen uses a full spectrum extract, so it carries trace THC within the federal 0.3% limit.
Individual experiences vary. Start with less if you’re new to CBD. This is not medical dosing advice.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Nicotine Reset Kit?
It’s three CBD products in one box, each matched to a different part of the day. The CBD CBG Disposable Vape Pen (1.0 mL, full spectrum) covers the moments your hands want something to do. CBD Stress Gummies carry 30mg CBD and 10mg CBC, plus L-theanine, ashwagandha and lemon balm, for the afternoon. CBD + CBN Sleep Gummies pair 10mg CBD with 20mg CBN, L-tryptophan and vitamin B6 for the evening. Both gummy boxes hold 20 THC-free gummies. Bought separately, the set runs $150. The kit is $120, 20% off. Nothing in it contains nicotine, and it isn’t an FDA-approved quit aid: it’s a way to keep CBD within reach while you change your routine. Batch COAs for all of it live on our lab results page.
Does CBD help with nicotine cravings?
The research hasn’t shown that, and we’d rather tell you straight. Three small human studies point somewhere interesting. In Morgan et al. (2013), 24 smokers using a CBD inhaler for a week smoked about 40% fewer cigarettes while the placebo group didn’t change, yet craving scores were similar in both groups. Hindocha et al. (2018) found a single 800mg oral dose made cigarette cues less attention-grabbing, with no change in craving or withdrawal. An open-label 2023 study of 20 e-cigarette users reported lower withdrawal severity after 320mg of CBD, with no placebo group. Those oral doses are far above anything in this kit. A UCLA trial of about 120 smokers is due to finish in December 2026. Every study, with links, is in our research breakdown.
Do CBD vapes have nicotine?
No. There’s zero nicotine and zero tobacco in the CBD CBG pen. It also skips the base liquids most disposables are built on: no propylene glycol, no vegetable glycerin, no MCT oil, no vitamin E acetate. Inside is full spectrum CBD boosted with CBG, in strains like The Remedy, Juicy Fruit and Hawaiian Dream. Full spectrum means trace THC under the federal 0.3% limit, so the pen is non-intoxicating but not THC-free. It’s rechargeable over USB-C and draw-activated, with no buttons to fuss with. One honest note: inhaling anything heated isn’t the same as breathing clean air. If you don’t need the hand-to-mouth part covered, the two gummy boxes work fine without the pen. Compare every strain on our CBD disposable pens page.
How do I use the kit through the day?
Think day-and-night routine, with a pen in your pocket. Midday, a common starting point is half a CBD Stress Gummy, then 90 minutes of patience before deciding on the other half (the label says one a day). Keep the pen for the in-between moments: one or two slow draws of 2 to 4 seconds, then pause for a few minutes. In the evening, try half a CBD + CBN Sleep Gummy an hour or two before bed. Plenty of customers stay at half, like Susan V., who takes half a sleep gummy a couple of hours before bed. Give each product a few days before adjusting, and change one variable at a time. At half a gummy a day, each 20-count box lasts about 40 days, which makes the kit an easy one to put on subscription.
How fast does each product in the kit work?
The pen is fast, the gummies are slow, and the kit is built around that gap. Inhaled CBD usually lands within a few minutes because it skips digestion, and most people feel it taper over one to three hours. Gummies take the long route: expect 30 to 90 minutes before you notice them, with a tail that often runs four to six hours. So the pen covers a moment and a gummy covers a stretch. Food, body weight, tolerance and dose all move those numbers, sometimes a lot. If a gummy hasn’t kicked in after 90 minutes, wait it out rather than taking more, since stacking early doses is an easy way to overshoot. New to CBD altogether? Our CBD guide and shop walks through every format we make.
Will the Nicotine Reset Kit make me fail a drug test?
Yes. The vape pen is full spectrum, so it contains trace THC, and drug tests detect THC metabolites rather than CBD itself. Those metabolites can build up in your system with regular, daily use, and a few draws a day count. The gummies are a different story: both boxes use CBD, CBN and CBC isolates formulated with zero THC, and every batch COA shows THC as non-detect, so they shouldn’t cause a positive on their own. If a clean test matters for your job, skip all cannabinoid products, full-spectrum CBD included, until the test is behind you. Want to check before you buy? Every batch is posted on our lab results page. For state-by-state cannabis rules, NORML keeps an updated guide.
Are there side effects, and can I use the kit with nicotine patches or gum?
Most people tolerate CBD well, but it isn’t side-effect free. The FDA lists sleepiness, upset stomach, diarrhea, decreased appetite and mood changes such as irritability, along with possible liver effects and drug interactions. CBD is processed by the same liver enzymes as many prescriptions, so check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting if you take any prescription medication. Nothing in this kit contains nicotine, so it doesn’t add to the nicotine from a patch, gum or lozenge. No study has tested CBD alongside nicotine replacement, though, so ask your doctor before combining them. Skip the kit if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, and keep it away from kids and pets. And if you’re working on quitting, free coaching is a call away at 1-800-QUIT-NOW.
Can I subscribe to the Nicotine Reset Kit?
Yes, and it’s the cheaper way to run it. Choose subscribe in the buy box and your first kit is 20% off: $96 instead of $120. After that, you set the rhythm. Change your next ship date by up to 30 days, skip a shipment, pause whenever you like or switch how often it arrives, all from your account. Want an extra pen or another box of sleep gummies on the same order? Add it to the subscription instead of placing a second order. At half a gummy a day, each box lasts about 40 days, so many people start on a monthly or every-six-weeks cadence and adjust from there. Everything you can change is laid out on our subscriptions page.
Why buy the kit from TribeTokes?
Because you can check our work before you spend a dollar. Every batch of every product in this kit has a certificate of analysis on our lab results page, so the cannabinoid numbers on the box are numbers you can verify. TribeTokes is woman-owned, has been around since 2017 and has more than 6,000 verified reviews. The vape pen holds a 4.89 average from 115 reviews, and the Sleep Gummies sit at 4.87 from 53. The gummies are vegan and pectin-based, with no gelatin and no artificial dyes. And when we don’t know something (like whether CBD helps anyone stay off nicotine for good), we say so rather than filling the gap with marketing. That’s why the research section on this page includes the null results too.
